U.S. President Donald Trump signed a resolution outlining financial transparency principles for the newly established body.
President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan took part in the first meeting of the Peace Council held in Washington on February 19 at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Peace Council was established on January 22 in Davos at Trump’s initiative and is intended to focus on conflict resolution and post-conflict stabilization efforts.
Speaking at the event, President Trump said he had worked to end multiple international conflicts during his time in office and referred to the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia as a significant development. He thanked the leaders of both countries for their engagement in the peace process.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Trump signed a resolution defining the Council’s principles of financial integrity and transparency. The document was adopted unanimously.
On the sidelines of the event, Aliyev held a brief exchange with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during which the two discussed the progress of the bilateral peace process.

Aliyev also met informally with several international leaders and officials attending the session, including Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan for Foreign Policy Affairs, said Baku, as a founding member state, supports the objectives of the Peace Council.
He clarified that Azerbaijan is not participating in the $7 billion Gaza-related financial initiative mentioned during the session, although potential future investment engagement has not been ruled out.
Azerbaijan, as a founding member state, supports the goals and objectives of the Board of Peace.
