Azerbaijan’s vehicle scrappage programme allows owners to voluntarily surrender old or unusable cars in exchange for financial compensation, though overall participation remains modest.
Drivers can receive a voucher worth about 1,500 manats or a one-time payment of roughly 1,050 manats, depending on the vehicle category.
The process requires deregistration of the car, online appointment with an authorised recycler and confirmation within two working days, while payments are transferred within 30 working days.
More than 21,000 vehicles have been registered in the system so far, indicating gradual uptake. Officials are considering expanding the programme and increasing compensation levels to encourage wider participation and improve road safety and environmental conditions.
