Promises of high salaries, favorable conditions, and fast document processing are increasingly appearing on social media, but many of these offers conceal sophisticated fraud schemes targeting Azerbaijani citizens.
According to reported cases, intermediaries first propose employment or study opportunities abroad and then request advance payments. Victims have lost several thousand manats under the pretext of relocation to countries such as Canada or Poland. After receiving the money, the organizers typically disappear, and the promised programs prove nonexistent.
Specialists say young people seeking education or work opportunities overseas are particularly vulnerable. In some situations, scammers exploit parental trust by promoting seemingly legitimate study programs. More severe outcomes may include forced labor, sexual exploitation, or other forms of human trafficking.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan urges citizens to verify any overseas job or education offer carefully. Individuals are advised to contact the anti-trafficking hotline 152 for free and confidential guidance, confirm information with Azerbaijani diplomatic missions in the destination country, check company licenses, and request official employment contracts before making any payment.
Authorities also stress the importance of safeguarding personal identity documents and immediately contacting local law enforcement or Azerbaijani diplomatic representatives abroad if any illegal activity occurs.
