The Azerbaijani lawmaker questioned how advanced U.S. semiconductor plans align with Armenia’s current security and geopolitical landscape.
Azerbaijani MP Rasim Musabayov has commented on remarks made by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance in Yerevan, where he said the administration had approved plans by NVIDIA to establish chip production in Armenia-technology that, according to the statement, is not available in most countries.
Musabayov described the announcement as striking given Armenia’s existing geopolitical realities. He noted the presence of Russian military bases in the country, border security overseen by Russia’s Federal Security Service, and what he characterized as significant Russian and Iranian influence.
The lawmaker suggested two possible interpretations. Either the chips envisioned for production in Armenia are not among the most advanced technologies, or Washington may be preparing for a rapid reduction of Russian and Iranian influence in the country.
The comments come amid growing U.S. engagement in the South Caucasus and broader discussions about a shifting regional security architecture.
