A separate criminal investigation has been launched in connection with the deaths of four young men who were electrocuted in the Binagadi district, according to local media reports.

Earlier, the tenant of “Lake Hotel” was sentenced to four years and six months in prison in connection with the incident.

According to reports citing Qafqazinfo, the newly opened criminal case concerns the electricity line that allegedly caused the fatal incident. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the installation of the power line, which was reportedly drawn to a 102-hectare agricultural land plot in the Novkhani settlement registered in the name of Galina Mehdiyeva, the spouse of former Head of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev.

Various production and processing facilities are said to have operated on the land in question.

The Prosecutor’s Office has initiated comprehensive investigative actions, and the state energy company AzerEnergy has been involved in the inquiry.

Within the framework of the new criminal case, Ramiz and Galina Mehdiyev have reportedly provided testimony.

Ramiz Mehdiyev is a long-time Azerbaijani political figure who served as Head of the Presidential Administration from 1995 until 2019. He later chaired the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan before leaving that position. In recent years, he has not held a formal state office.

The tragedy occurred in November of last year. Four waiters employed at “Lake Hotel” lost their lives as a result of electric shock.
