Used Car Prices Rise In Azerbaijan As Market Activity Slows

Prices for used cars in Azerbaijan have risen sharply in recent months, even as buyer activity across the market remains weak.

Car sellers say vehicles that previously sold for around 13,000 manats are now rarely available for less than 15,000 manats, reflecting an average increase of roughly 2,000-2,500 manats.

According to vendors at car markets in Sumgayit, the price growth has not translated into stronger demand. Instead, the market is experiencing a noticeable slowdown as many buyers delay purchases.

“Prices have gone up, but finding buyers has become more difficult,” one seller said, describing the current market situation.

Similar trends are reported in other regions, including Tovuz, where traders say buyer activity has dropped compared with previous months. Potential customers are increasingly reluctant to purchase vehicles because of the higher prices.

Many buyers say that with budgets of 7,000-8,000 manats, it has become difficult to find a reliable car, forcing them to postpone purchases or search longer for affordable options.

Automotive market expert Sarkhan Gadirov says that despite the current stagnation, the situation could improve in the coming months as seasonal demand increases.

He noted that interest in imported vehicles – particularly cars ordered from the United States, as well as Japanese and Korean models – has recently grown. Sales of older Soviet-era vehicles have also seen renewed demand.

Gadirov added that further price increases cannot be ruled out later this year, especially if demand strengthens. Any price growth, he said, could affect not only used cars but also new hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles entering the Azerbaijani market.
