Kazakhstan is considering using the Baku-Supsa pipeline to export its oil through Azerbaijan.
Consultations are underway with the Azerbaijani side and relevant oil companies, AZE.US reports, citing Report.
Kazakh Deputy Energy Minister Sungat Yesimkhanov said the parties were examining the commercial and technical parameters of potential shipments through the route.
No expected volumes or possible launch date have been announced.
Kazakhstan is also working to increase oil shipments through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, which carries Caspian crude through Azerbaijan and Georgia to Turkey’s Mediterranean coast.
Astana’s interest in Baku-Supsa reflects its effort to diversify oil export routes and reduce dependence on a limited number of transit options.
Additional Kazakh shipments would help Azerbaijan increase the use of its pipeline infrastructure and strengthen its position as an energy bridge between Central Asia and Western markets.
The development remains at the consultation stage, however, and no final transportation agreement has been announced.
