A new video review has provided a snapshot of food prices at a market in Baku, with seasonal vegetables remaining relatively affordable while meat and dairy products showed a much wider price range.
The review was published by the YouTube channel Solnechny Kray, whose host visited fruit, vegetable, meat, dairy and dried-fruit stalls.
Tomatoes were available for 0.70-1 manat ($0.41-$0.59) per kilogram, while cucumbers were priced from 0.50 manat ($0.29). Eggplants and bell peppers cost around 0.70 manat ($0.41) per kilogram.
Potatoes were sold for 0.80-1 manat ($0.47-$0.59), depending on their origin and the vendor. Local garlic showed a particularly wide price difference, ranging from 2.50 to 5 manats ($1.47-$2.94) per kilogram.
Among seasonal fruits, grapes cost around 2 manats ($1.18) per kilogram, apples were priced at 1.30-1.50 manats ($0.76-$0.88), and plums cost about 1.50 manats.
Pears from Azerbaijan’s Khachmaz district were available for approximately 1 manat per kilogram.
Dogwood prices ranged from 1.50 to 2 manats ($0.88-$1.18), while lemons were sold for between 0.50 and 1 manat each. A box of raspberries cost 5 manats ($2.94).
Meat remained among the most expensive products. Beef was offered for 15-18.50 manats ($8.82-$10.88) per kilogram, while lamb cost approximately 21-22 manats ($12.35-$12.94). A whole chicken was purchased for 8 manats ($4.71), and eggs were priced at around 0.30 manat ($0.18) each.
Cheese prices started at about 5–7 manats ($2.94-$4.12) per kilogram. Cheese brought from Khinalig was offered for 12-15 manats ($7.06-$8.82), while cheese made from a mixture of cow’s and sheep’s milk cost around 16 manats ($9.41).
Dried apricots were available for about 8 manats ($4.71) per kilogram. Walnut prices generally ranged from 14.50 to 17.50 manats ($8.53-$10.29), depending on their quality and appearance.
The video showed that prices for identical products can vary considerably even within the same market. The figures represent prices observed during one visit and should not be treated as official market averages.
