Azerbaijan is continuing programs aimed at creating jobs and expanding employment opportunities, with the private sector increasingly becoming the country’s largest source of formal employment.
According to available data, 52,300 new jobs were created in Azerbaijan during the first half of 2026.
Vugar Bayramov, a member of the Azerbaijani Parliament’s Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship, said employment remains one of the government’s main economic and social priorities.
He noted that particular attention is being paid to increasing the number of jobs in the private sector and expanding its share of total employment.
“The growing share of the private sector helps create a more sustainable employment model. Its role in the labor market has increased over the past two years,” Bayramov said.
About 1.787 million people are currently employed under formal labor contracts in Azerbaijan. Of that total, approximately 844,000 work in the public sector, while about 942,000 are employed by private businesses.
The figures show that the private sector now employs nearly 98,000 more formally registered workers than the state.
Bayramov said government subsidies and expanded access to preferential business loans are also intended to encourage companies to create new jobs.
He added that continued support for private-sector employment could open additional opportunities for job seekers, including specialists in economics and related fields, while helping reduce unemployment.
