Preparatory work on the U.S.-backed Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, known as TRIPP, could begin in early 2027, according to Armenia’s ambassador to the United States.
Ambassador Narek Mkrtchyan told Semafor that the project was moving forward and that its feasibility study was expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Practical implementation could advance shortly afterward, Vesti Baku reported.
TRIPP is intended to establish a transit and trade connection between mainland Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan exclave through southern Armenia. The wider project is expected to include railway and other transport infrastructure and could become an important segment of regional East-West trade routes.
Mkrtchyan said Yerevan remained committed to the project, describing it as an important element of efforts to secure lasting peace with Azerbaijan.
At the same time, he stressed that Armenia intends to preserve relations with both Russia and Iran. Moscow and Tehran have closely followed the development of the U.S.-backed route because of its potential impact on existing transport networks and the regional balance of influence.
Azerbaijan is already building the railway infrastructure approaching the Armenian border. The start of work inside Armenia would therefore mark a significant transition from political agreements and technical planning to the physical creation of the route.
