President Ilham Aliyev has inspected Azerbaijan’s new armed and kamikaze unmanned surface vessels during a visit to the country’s naval forces.

President of Azerbaijan and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Azerbaijani Navy on September 6.

Defense Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov briefed the president on the Navy’s current activities and development.

New Unmanned Naval Capabilities

Aliyev was presented with the SALVO armed unmanned surface vessel and the KAYRA kamikaze unmanned surface vessel, including information about their purpose and tactical and technical specifications.

The vessels were developed at a joint production facility operated by Azerbaijan’s MIRAS Military-Industrial Company under the Defense Ministry and Türkiye’s DEARSAN Shipyard.

The president and first lady also reviewed the facility’s production progress. The unmanned vessels manufactured there subsequently underwent practical testing.

The visit concluded with an operational meeting on military development chaired by Aliyev.

The introduction of unmanned surface vessels reflects Azerbaijan’s continuing effort to modernize its naval capabilities and expand domestic defense production in cooperation with Türkiye.
