At least 22 people have been killed and more than 5,000 wounded in Israel since the war with Iran began on Feb. 28, according to figures released Friday by Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies and the Health Ministry.

The Health Ministry said the number of injured had climbed to 5,492, while the research institute reported that more than 4,800 people had also been displaced from their homes.

The institute said Iran had launched more than 550 missiles and over 765 drones toward Israel since the start of the war. The largest number of evacuees came from Tel Aviv, with additional displacement reported in southern cities including Dimona, Arad and Beersheba, as well as several towns in central Israel.

Israeli authorities have housed evacuees in hotels in Eilat during periods of escalation, according to the institute’s data cited by multiple media outlets. The figures point to the widening pressure on Israel’s civilian rear as missile and drone attacks continue to hit urban areas and force residents out of damaged neighborhoods.

The latest toll reflects a steady rise from earlier days of the conflict. Reuters reported on March 22 that at least 19 civilians in Israel and the West Bank had been killed by that stage, indicating that the number had increased further by Friday as the war entered its fourth week.
