Mashtaga Records 93% of Monthly Rainfall by Noon

Nearly an entire month’s normal rainfall fell in the Baku settlement of Mashtaga by noon on October 4, Azerbaijan’s National Hydrometeorological Service said.

Mashtaga received 37 millimeters of rain, equal to 93% of its monthly norm. Bina recorded 21 millimeters, or 75% of the norm, while the average across Baku reached 16 millimeters, equivalent to 57%.

Heaviest Rainfall Recorded in Shaki District

Outside the capital, the highest total was measured at Kishchay in the Shaki district, where 55 millimeters fell, amounting to 64% of the monthly norm.

Gabala received 51 millimeters, Oghuz 45 millimeters and Goychay 41 millimeters, the latter equal to 76% of its monthly average.

Other substantial totals included 30 millimeters in Astara, 26 millimeters in Kurdamir, 24 millimeters in Ismayilli, 23 millimeters in Shamakhi and 22 millimeters in Khizi, according to the weather service data published by Report.az.

Snow Cover Forms in Mountain Areas

Precipitation turned to snow at higher elevations. Snow cover reached 10 centimeters in Gryz, 5 centimeters in Khinalig, 2 centimeters on Mount Shahdag and 1 centimeter in Gusar.

For October 5, forecasters expect Baku and the Absheron Peninsula to be mostly dry during the day, with rain possible in some areas in the evening. Temperatures are forecast at 18 to 22 degrees Celsius, or about 64 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Lankaran-Astara zone could see intermittent rain and thunderstorms. Overnight temperatures in mountain areas may fall as low as minus 2 C, or 28 F, according to the forecast reported by APA.
