BAKU - Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Baku and the Absheron Peninsula from the afternoon of Oct. 9 through the evening of Oct. 10, while parts of Azerbaijan could see hail, mountain snow and short-term flooding or mudflows.
Azerbaijan’s National Hydrometeorological Service issued the warning on Oct. 8.
Heaviest Rain Expected Overnight
The most intense rainfall in Baku and across the Absheron Peninsula is expected from the evening of Oct. 9 through the morning of Oct. 10. Forecasters said thunderstorms could accompany the rain.
The service’s daily forecast for Oct. 9 said temperatures in Baku and Absheron would range from 15 to 17 degrees Celsius overnight and 19 to 23 degrees during the day, with northeast winds and relative humidity of 70% to 80%.
Flood and Mudflow Risk in Several Regions
Unstable weather is expected across the country from the afternoon of Oct. 9 through the evening of Oct. 10. Some areas could experience intense showers, thunderstorms and hail, while snow is possible in mountainous districts.
Rain could briefly intensify in some eastern regions during the day on Oct. 10.
Forecasters said water levels could rise in rivers and that short-term floods or mudflows are possible on some waterways in the Greater and Lesser Caucasus, the Lankaran-Astara region and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Residents in flood-prone areas should monitor official updates and avoid low-lying roads and river channels during heavy downpours.
