A father and son were injured in separate anti-personnel mine explosions in the same area of Azerbaijan’s Jabrayil district on October 8, authorities said.
Ashraf Elman oglu Gahramanov, born in 1966, entered an uncleared area near Dagmashanli village after his son was injured there earlier in the day, according to a joint statement from Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry, Prosecutor General’s Office and Mine Action Agency, known as ANAMA. Ashraf Gahramanov then struck an anti-personnel mine and suffered injuries of varying severity.
Two Explosions in One Day
His son, Orkhan Ashraf oglu Gahramanov, born in 2000, had stepped on an anti-personnel mine hours earlier while grazing livestock on territory that had not been cleared of mines. He was taken to Fuzuli District Central Hospital, underwent surgery and was receiving treatment in intensive care, according to APA.
The Jabrayil District Prosecutor’s Office is investigating both incidents.
ANAMA, the Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General’s Office again urged residents to follow mine-safety rules, heed warning signs, avoid unfamiliar or fenced-off areas and not touch suspicious objects.
