A Houthi missile-and-drone attack on Yemen’s presidential compound in Aden killed five people and wounded 16, according to the country’s Health Ministry.

Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani and cabinet members who were inside the Al-Maashiq complex were unharmed. Guards and civilian employees were among the casualties.

Yemen’s internationally recognized government said missiles and drones were used in the attack. The strike was the first against Al-Maashiq in the current phase of fighting between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia-backed forces, Reuters reported.

Houthis Say Saudi Operations Center Was Target

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the target was a Saudi military operations center. The Houthi-controlled SABA news agency said Saudi officers and weapons depots were inside the compound. Those claims have not been independently verified.

The internationally recognized Yemeni government is based in Aden because the capital, Sanaa, has been controlled by the Houthis since 2014.

Escalation Reaches Airports and Energy Sites

The Saudi-led coalition said the Houthis carried out 20 attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh during October, killing 17 people and injuring 333. It said attacks on Abha airport killed three more people and wounded 28.

Saudi forces also reported intercepting drones over Khamis Mushait and southern parts of the kingdom. Earlier attacks hit Saudi Aramco facilities and Riyadh’s airport.

Fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed forces resumed last month. Government troops recaptured some territory near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical route for global maritime trade.

Casualty figures reported in the first hours after the Aden strike varied. The five deaths and 16 injuries are the later figures attributed to Yemen’s Health Ministry.
