Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has responded to words of gratitude expressed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian over Azerbaijan’s support for Iran.
The statement published on the Azerbaijani president’s social media account said Pezeshkian’s message of thanks to the Azerbaijani state and people was “highly appreciated” in Azerbaijan.
“The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, my brother President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing his gratitude to the people and state of Azerbaijan for the support shown is highly appreciated by our people. Our friendly and brotherly peoples have supported one another for centuries and will continue to stand by each other in both good times and difficult days,” the post said.
The statement was published in Azerbaijani and Persian.

Aliyev’s response came after Pezeshkian wrote on X on April 3 that he highly appreciated the sympathy and support shown by the Azerbaijani government and people toward Iran.
A day earlier, on April 2, Aliyev and Pezeshkian held a phone call. During the conversation, the Iranian president thanked Azerbaijan for its humanitarian assistance. Aliyev said Baku would continue providing aid and noted that another shipment would be sent soon.
Aliyev also expressed concern over the worsening situation in Iran, offered condolences over the deaths of Iranian citizens, and said he hoped the confrontation would end as soon as possible. The two leaders also stressed the need for peace to be restored quickly in the region.
Following that phone call, Azerbaijan on April 4 sent another humanitarian aid convoy to Iran aimed at helping meet the current needs of the neighboring country.
The shipment totaled 200 tons, including 190 tons of food products, 7 tons of medicines, and 3 tons of medical supplies. The aid was dispatched in 10 trucks.
This was the third humanitarian shipment Azerbaijan has sent to Iran since February 28.
Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, also thanked Azerbaijan for what he described as solidarity and support. Speaking to reporters, he said the third aid convoy showed the backing of both the Azerbaijani government and people.
He added that such support was especially important for Iran at a time when it was under military attack, and said Azerbaijan was the first country to send humanitarian aid to Iran.
