A total of 58,947 applicants were admitted to Azerbaijani universities in 2026, according to State Examination Center Chair Maleyka Abbaszade.
Overall, 87,146 people participated in the university admissions competition, AZE.US reports.
Of those admitted, 28,108 received places under the state-order system.
Another 317 were assigned to a separate state-funded category, while 30,522 students were admitted on a tuition-paying basis.
The number of fee-paying students was therefore approximately 2,100 higher than the number receiving state-funded education.
Universities filled 97.07% of their available places. The rate is expected to increase after an additional round of program selection for the remaining vacancies.
The total number of successful applicants increased by 1,711 from the previous year. The number admitted under the state-order system rose by 290.
The figures show that tuition-based education continues to account for the largest share of university admissions despite a gradual expansion of state-funded opportunities.
