Azerbaijan and the European Union have provisionally agreed on a new Partnership Priorities document intended to guide bilateral relations, EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Marijana Kujundzic said.
Speaking at a roundtable in Baku on September 4, Kujundzic said the document would help define the main political, economic and sectoral areas of cooperation between Baku and Brussels, according to Vesti Baku.
The draft priorities cover the 2026–2030 period. The two sides have also resumed negotiations on a broader bilateral agreement, with another round of talks expected in late September.
Kujundzic identified clean energy, trade, economic diversification and people-to-people contacts as key areas of the developing partnership.
The ambassador said the EU remained Azerbaijan’s largest trading partner, while Azerbaijan had established itself as an important and reliable energy supplier to European markets.
Energy cooperation has become increasingly important as the EU seeks to diversify its gas supplies. Azerbaijan, meanwhile, is working to expand non-oil exports, attract European investment and strengthen its role in transport and energy connectivity between Central Asia and Europe.
The provisional agreement does not mean that the document has been formally approved or entered into force. Further negotiations and political procedures will be required before the new framework is finalized.
