Roads near schools and other educational institutions in Baku will be monitored by surveillance cameras as the new academic year begins.
According to AZE.US, Omar Khidirli, spokesperson for the Interior Ministry’s Intelligent Transport Management Center, said traffic congestion often increases near educational institutions at the start of each school year.
Many parents driving their children to school, as well as students who drive themselves, violate traffic rules by stopping or parking in prohibited areas, he said. These violations create avoidable congestion on nearby streets and avenues.
The center will monitor roads around educational institutions through its camera network.
When congestion is detected, traffic police will be notified, while traffic lights on certain routes may be switched to a “green wave” mode to improve traffic flow.
Authorities urged parents and students to use designated parking areas, including underground and above-ground facilities, and avoid leaving vehicles in locations where stopping or parking is prohibited.
