Azerbaijan and Armenia have agreed to continue direct talks, with their foreign ministers focusing on peace efforts and the opening of economic and transport links between the two countries.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met Sept. 24 in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to Vesti Baku.
The ministers reviewed progress since agreements reached at the 2025 Washington peace summit and emphasized the importance of establishing a durable peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Trade and Transit Move Onto the Practical Agenda
Bayramov and Mirzoyan gave particular attention to opening economic and transport infrastructure. They described trade and transit links between the two countries as a practical example of the benefits the peace process could deliver.
The ministers also discussed ways to advance a positive agenda in multilateral forums. They agreed to preserve the direct format for negotiations.
No new timetable was announced for reopening regional communications or signing a final peace agreement.
