BAKU, Azerbaijan — Azerbaijan and Tajikistan are considering expanded cargo transit through the Middle Corridor as well as cooperation in energy, metals and agriculture.
President Ilham Aliyev discussed the plans with Tajik Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda during a meeting on Sept. 25.
Aliyev said there were strong opportunities to develop bilateral ties further. The talks focused on transport and logistics, increased trade and the use of Azerbaijani territory to move Tajik cargo through the Middle Corridor to international markets.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in metallurgy, energy and agriculture. They highlighted the role of direct Baku-Dushanbe flights in increasing passenger traffic and tourism.
Tajikistan expressed interest in adopting elements of Azerbaijan’s ASAN xidmət public-service model. The officials also discussed education quotas for Tajik students in Azerbaijan.
The participants cited the Declaration on Strategic Partnership signed in Baku in 2024 as the foundation of bilateral relations.
