Armenia says the Margara checkpoint on its border with Turkey has been renovated and is operationally ready, although no date has been announced for reopening the frontier.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan visited the checkpoint with the heads of the country’s diplomatic missions as part of the Foreign Ministry’s annual seminar.
Eduard Hakobyan, chairman of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee, presented the repair and modernization work completed at the facility and said it was ready for operation.
Neither Armenia nor Turkey, however, has announced a decision to open the checkpoint to regular traffic. The facility’s technical readiness should therefore not be interpreted as confirmation that the border is about to reopen.
Any future opening could reshape regional trade and transport flows, including routes involving Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
