Automobile spare-parts imports are declining in Azerbaijan, while prices for used components have risen by 20% to 40%. Some scarce parts now cost nearly twice as much as before.
Imports of vehicle parts and components fell 13% year over year in January-July 2026, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee. The value of imported products exceeded $193 million during the seven-month period.
Reduced supplies of new parts, combined with steady demand, are placing additional pressure on prices.
As new components become increasingly unaffordable, more motorists are turning to used parts.
But prices are now rising in that segment as well.
Sellers say used components have become 20% to 40% more expensive, depending on the type of part. Prices for certain items affected by shortages have nearly doubled.
Market participants attribute the increase to supply disruptions and higher logistics costs. A significant share of used auto parts reaches Azerbaijan through Dubai, but shipments along that route have also become more difficult and expensive.
According to sellers, wholesale purchase prices have increased by approximately 10% to 15%, while transportation expenses have added another 15%. As a result, many components now cost about 30% more on the local market.
A vehicle door that previously sold for 100 manats ($59) now costs 120-140 manats ($71-$82). Some parts formerly priced at 250-300 manats ($147-$176) are now being offered for 450-500 manats ($265-$294) because of shortages.
Auto mechanic Jalil Ahmadov said new components are particularly expensive for premium vehicles. A new alternator, for example, may cost 500-600 manats ($294-$353), while a used original unit can be purchased for about 100-150 manats ($59-$88).
Used parts are commonly installed in engines and include alternators, starters and certain electronic sensors. However, mechanics advise motorists to purchase new suspension and brake components because their condition directly affects vehicle safety.
The market is entering a vicious cycle: imports of new parts are declining, new components remain expensive, motorists are shifting to used alternatives, and rising demand and supply problems are pushing up prices in the secondhand market as well.
Even routine repairs are becoming a serious financial burden.
Many vehicle owners are postponing maintenance, searching for the cheapest substitutes or buying components removed from dismantled vehicles – sometimes at the expense of reliability and safety.
