Azerbaijan Bill Would Halt Crane Work in Winds Above Force 8

BAKU, Azerbaijan - Azerbaijan’s parliament has advanced Labor Code amendments that would stop ground-based crane operations when winds exceed force 8 and introduce clearer rules for other outdoor work in severe weather.

The Milli Majlis approved the proposal in a first reading on Oct. 16, according to Report.

Under the draft, ground cranes could operate in winds rated between force 6 and force 8 only when the crane’s technical passport specifically permits it. All ground-crane work would have to stop when winds rise above force 8, without exception.

The amendments would also require breaks or a suspension of work for employees working outdoors or on exposed structures when weather conditions create a safety risk. The detailed procedure would be set under the applicable rules.

The measure is intended to make wind-related workplace restrictions more explicit, particularly in construction and other sectors that use lifting equipment.

Because the bill has passed only its first reading, the proposed limits are not yet in effect. Employers and workers remain subject to existing occupational-safety rules while parliament continues its review.
