Fish Prices Reach 15 Manats per Kilogram as Buyers Compare Online and Direct Sales

BAKU - Fish prices quoted by sellers in Azerbaijan range from 2 manats to 15 manats per kilogram, with buyers sometimes saving 2 to 3 manats by purchasing directly from fishermen instead of ordering delivery.

Some sellers, however, charge the same price online and at the point of sale, while offering free delivery within their local district, according to a Vesti Baku report based on a television segment comparing direct and online purchases.

One fisherman offered carp for 10 manats ($5.88) per kilogram and catfish for 15 manats ($8.82). Sellers said prices depend mainly on the species and size of the catch, while online orders may cost more because of transportation expenses.

Another seller said delivery adds about 1 manat (59 cents) to the price. Buyers cited a larger potential difference, saying direct purchases from fishermen can sometimes save 2 to 3 manats ($1.18 to $1.76).

Crucian Carp Starts at 2.5 Manats in Tovuz

In Tovuz, prices for some fish start at 2 manats ($1.18) per kilogram. A local seller gave the following price ranges:

  • Crucian carp: 2.5 to 3 manats ($1.47 to $1.76) per kilogram, rising to 4 manats ($2.35) for larger fish.
  • Bream: 2 to 3 manats ($1.18 to $1.76) per kilogram.
  • Shemaya: 4 to 5 manats ($2.35 to $2.94) per kilogram.

The seller takes orders through WhatsApp and said online prices are the same as prices at the point of sale. Delivery within the district is free, while sending an order to Baku costs an additional 5 manats ($2.94).

Online and Direct Prices Match in Yevlakh

A seller in Yevlakh also said the ordering method does not change the price of the fish. Orders are cleaned and packed before being sent to customers.

Perch costs about 5 to 6 manats ($2.94 to $3.53) per kilogram, depending on size, the seller said. The same fish can cost as much as 8 manats ($4.71) at the market. Carp is offered for about 6 to 7 manats ($3.53 to $4.12) per kilogram.

The comparisons show that ordering online does not always mean paying more. The final cost depends on each seller’s terms: some include transportation in the fish price, while others charge separately or deliver nearby orders free.

Dollar conversions use the Central Bank of Azerbaijan’s official Oct. 20, 2026 rate of 1.7000 manats per U.S. dollar.
