The imported passenger cars were valued at about 1.603 billion manats ($943.2 million), Report said, citing Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.
Imports included 11,621 plug-in hybrids. Azerbaijan also imported 5,174 hybrid cars without external charging capability, down 58.8%, and 680 electric vehicles, a decrease of 56.4%.
Across all categories, Azerbaijan imported 57,275 vehicles worth about 1.924 billion manats ($1.132 billion) in January-September. The overall number of imported vehicles fell 32.8%, while their value declined 29.3%.
Truck imports decreased 10.7% to 5,383 units. Special-purpose vehicles were the only listed category to record growth, rising 26.2% to 467 units.
The figures cover imports rather than retail sales or consumer prices. An earlier report showed a decline in passenger-car imports during January-July; the latest data extend the reporting period through September.
