Azerbaijan summoned Poland’s ambassador and delivered a formal diplomatic protest over a program broadcast by Poland’s state-funded TVP World channel.
Ambassador Pawel Radomski was called to the Foreign Ministry following an August 26 segment aired on the Eastern Express program.
The Azerbaijani ministry said the broadcast contained biased and unacceptable claims directed against the Azerbaijani state and the country’s leadership. It also objected to what it described as provocative conduct by the program’s host.
Baku did not specify in its public statement which individual claims it considered inaccurate.
The ministry said it was particularly concerned that the program had aired as Azerbaijan and Armenia continued their normalization and peace process.
Azerbaijan also emphasized TVP’s status as a publicly funded broadcaster. The ministry described the publication of negative material by a media organization financed by the Polish government as an unfriendly act that contradicted the spirit of partnership between the two countries.
Poland was urged to take immediate and effective measures to prevent similar broadcasts.
The ministry warned that continued coverage of this kind could cause serious damage to Azerbaijani-Polish relations, Report said.
The episode marks an unusual diplomatic dispute between Azerbaijan and Poland, which have generally maintained cooperative political and economic relations.
Warsaw had not publicly detailed its response to the Azerbaijani protest at the time of publication.
