A taxi driver in Baku has been detained after a 16-year-old student reported alleged sexual misconduct during a ride, Azerbaijani media reported Wednesday.
The incident was reported to have occurred on October 20 between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. The 11th-grade student was returning from classes and boarded a shared low-cost taxi traveling from the Koroglu metro station to the Albalılıq residential area of Buzovna.
The teenager alleged that after the other passengers left and he was alone with the driver, the man began making obscene comments and subjected him to physical conduct of a sexual nature.
Baku.ws, which first reported the complaint, said police were investigating the incident. Subsequent Azerbaijani media reports citing law enforcement said officers identified and detained the driver and opened a criminal case. The specific Criminal Code provision and the suspect’s identity were not immediately disclosed.
The allegation has not been adjudicated, and authorities have not released further details about the investigation.
