Fish prices are rising in Baku as cooler weather boosts demand, with premium varieties now selling for as much as 100 manats ($59) per kilogram, according to local vendors.
A large beluga can cost around 560 manats ($329), while some other varieties are offered cleaned for approximately 35 manats ($21) per kilogram.
Despite the high-end prices, fish remains available across a broad price range. Vendors said imported products account for about 80% of the fish sold at the market, with supplies arriving mainly from Turkey, Kazakhstan and Iran.
One imported variety that cost 11 manats ($6.50) per kilogram in August is now selling for 12 to 13 manats ($7 to $7.65).
The supply of locally caught Caspian fish remains limited because the fishing season has only recently begun. Vendors expect more local fish to reach the market in the coming weeks.
Customers interviewed at the market said they generally prefer affordable locally caught fish.
Sellers, however, warned that prices could increase further as temperatures fall and seasonal demand rises.
