Prices for nuts and dried fruits are increasing across markets and supermarkets in Azerbaijan as demand grows ahead of the Novruz holiday.
With the start of pre-holiday Tuesdays, consumers are actively purchasing traditional festive products, including walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds and raisins. Vendors say higher demand is pushing prices upward, with some items seeing noticeable increases compared to last year.
Market Prices Vary by Origin and Size
At open-air markets, prices depend on the product’s origin and quality:
-
Walnuts range from 8 to 22 manats per kilogram, depending on region and size.
-
Hazelnuts, including those from Khachmaz, are priced between 20 and 30 manats.
-
Local almonds sell for 15–22 manats, while imported varieties reach 20–24 manats.
-
Chestnuts are offered at around 10 manats per kilogram.
-
Uzbek raisins range from 8 to 19 manats depending on size and variety.
Some sellers report price increases of 1–2 manats for almonds and raisins compared to earlier periods. In certain cases, hazelnut prices have risen significantly, with vendors citing reduced local production as a contributing factor.
Supermarkets Offer Wider Selection – At Higher Cost
Supermarkets typically provide a broader assortment, though often at higher prices:
-
Pistachios can reach up to 65 manats per kilogram.
-
Imported pistachios are priced between 35 and 43 manats.
-
Cashews sell for around 31–32 manats.
-
Roasted hazelnuts are offered at 30–36 manats or more.
Retailers say walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds and raisins remain the most in-demand items.
Further Increases Possible
Sellers note that as Novruz approaches, demand is expected to rise further, potentially leading to additional price adjustments in the coming days.
Consumers report that some products have already increased by approximately 20% compared to previous months, though price changes vary depending on supply and product origin.
