Used Hybrids Surge In Price In Azerbaijan As Market Rebounds

Used hybrid cars are becoming significantly more expensive in Azerbaijan, with some older Japanese models posting price increases of 60% to 70% after last year’s sharp drop.

Listings on local car sales platforms show that vehicles once sold for 7,000 to 8,000 manats are now being offered for 12,000 manats or more. The steepest gains are being seen in the second-hand hybrid segment, long regarded as one of the most affordable options for cost-conscious drivers and small businesses.

Eyub Aliyev, chairman of the Automobile Dealers Association, said the latest jump is tied in large part to the expiration of incentives that had previously supported the import and sale of new environmentally cleaner vehicles. As those benefits ended and new hybrid prices moved higher, the secondary market followed.

He argued that the current spike should also be viewed in context. In his telling, the market is not only rising, but partly correcting from an earlier collapse. Last year, prices for many aging Japanese hybrids fell abruptly after restrictions reduced their use in the taxi sector, pushing some vehicles down to just 6,000-7,000 manats.

That trend has now reversed. With demand recovering from courier services, delivery operators and private companies, these same cars are once again gaining value. The shift suggests that in Azerbaijan’s current market, even older hybrid vehicles remain commercially useful enough to attract buyers despite their age.

The rebound also says something broader about the market: when cheaper new eco-friendly cars become less accessible, pressure quickly moves to the used segment. In that environment, old hybrids are no longer just budget cars. They are turning back into working assets.
