Azerbaijan has awarded state-funded undergraduate places to 1,870 students who had initially enrolled at universities on a tuition-paying basis for the 2026-2027 academic year.
The State Examination Center said the students secured the places through an additional competition held after some government-funded positions remained unfilled following the main university admissions process.
The center announced the results on Oct. 6 in an official statement. The Russian-language counterpart was published by Vesti Baku, drawing on reports by Report and APA.
Selection Based on Admission Scores
The additional competition was open to students who had already been admitted on a paid basis to the relevant degree programs. The vacant state-funded places were allocated according to the admission scores the students had earned.
The list of all 1,870 successful students has been sent to the relevant universities so they can make the necessary enrollment and funding changes.
The State Examination Center also sent notifications to the mobile telephone numbers listed in the students’ online personal accounts.
Who Qualifies for Free Study
The decision does not abolish tuition for all fee-paying university students. It applies only to students who won specific vacant government-funded places through the additional competition.
Earlier admissions data from the center showed that 58,947 people were admitted to Azerbaijani universities after the first stage of placement for the 2026-2027 academic year. Of those, 28,108 secured places under the state order, 317 received other state-funded places and 30,522 were admitted on a tuition-paying basis.
The latest decision moves the 1,870 successful applicants from the paid category to education financed by the state for their approved undergraduate places.
