Aliyev, Berdymukhammedov Discuss Transit and Caspian Cooperation

Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Serdar Berdymukhammedov of Turkmenistan discussed expanding transit, logistics and economic cooperation, as well as Caspian Sea issues, during a separate meeting in Turkmenbashi on October 8.

The two leaders held talks after the summit of the heads of state of Central Asia and Azerbaijan.

They noted the intensity of political dialogue between the two countries. Five high-level visits have taken place since last year, including Aliyev’s trips to Turkmenistan and visits to Azerbaijan by Serdar Berdymukhammedov and Halk Maslahaty Chairman Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, including visits to Karabakh.

Transit and Bilateral Relations on the Agenda

In addition to transport and transit, the presidents reviewed cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields, coordination in international organizations and the prospects for bilateral relations.

Aliyev thanked the Turkmen side for the initiative that enabled Azerbaijan to become a full participant in the consultative format of Central Asian heads of state in November last year.

No new agreements or specific decisions were announced after the bilateral meeting.
