A total of 443 people have been killed or injured by landmines in Azerbaijan since the end of the 2020 war, the Foreign Ministry said after two new explosions in the Jabrayil district.
The latest casualties were a father and son injured in separate anti-personnel mine blasts near Dagmashanli village on October 8.
Orkhan Ashraf oglu Gahramanov, born in 2000, stepped on a mine while grazing livestock in an area that had not been cleared. His father, Ashraf Elman oglu Gahramanov, born in 1966, later entered the same dangerous area and was injured by another anti-personnel mine.
Baku Calls for Greater International Attention
The Foreign Ministry said the incidents showed that mines remain a deadly threat and called for greater international attention to demining in Azerbaijan.
The Jabrayil District Prosecutor’s Office is investigating both explosions. Azerbaijan’s Mine Action Agency, Interior Ministry and Prosecutor General’s Office urged residents to heed warning signs, avoid unfamiliar or fenced-off territory and not touch suspicious objects.
The father-and-son incidents were independently reported by APA.
