Fourteen Schoolchildren Hospitalized After Classroom Meal in Beylagan

Fourteen schoolchildren were taken to a hospital in Azerbaijan’s Beylagan district on Oct. 9 with suspected food poisoning after eating food prepared during a technology class, according to Vesti Baku.

The incident occurred at about noon at the secondary school in Eyvazali village.

Seven girls and seven boys were admitted to Beylagan Central District Hospital. They received first aid and remained under treatment, with all 14 reported in stable condition.

Cause Remains Under Investigation

According to preliminary information provided by Azerbaijan’s Food Safety Agency, the pupils began feeling unwell after eating food they had prepared themselves during the class.

The agency said it had taken the case under review and specialists were conducting an investigation. The final cause of the children’s symptoms had not been established.

Authorities had not announced what dish was prepared, whether samples had been collected or how long the pupils were expected to remain under medical observation.
