President Ilham Aliyev has approved a new composition for Azerbaijan’s State Commission on the Delimitation and Demarcation of the State Border with Georgia.
Aliyev signed the relevant order on Oct. 10, according to Report.az.
Under the order, an Azerbaijani deputy foreign minister will chair the commission, while a deputy head of the State Border Service will serve as deputy chair.
The commission also includes deputy heads or senior representatives from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ministry of Internal Affairs, State Security Service, Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Justice, the State Service for Property Issues, the Agency of Geodesy and Cartography, and the State Cadastre and Real Estate Registry.
The heads of the executive authorities of the Aghstafa, Balakan, Gakh, Gazakh, Samukh, Tovuz and Zagatala districts will also take part in the commission’s work.
The order instructs the Cabinet of Ministers to address matters arising from the change and directs the Foreign Ministry to notify the Georgian side of the commission’s new composition.
The measure updates Azerbaijan’s representation in the bilateral mechanism responsible for legally defining the state border and subsequently marking it on the ground. It does not mean the Azerbaijan-Georgia border delimitation has been completed or that the two countries have signed a new border agreement. No timetable for further meetings or practical work was announced.
