BAKU, Azerbaijan - Cumulative direct investment from the Czech Republic into Azerbaijan reached about $74 million from 1995 through the end of the first half of 2026, according to figures presented Monday at an Azerbaijan-Czech business forum in Baku.
About $70 million of that total went to Azerbaijan’s non-oil and gas economy, Yusif Abdullayev said at the Oct. 12 forum. Abdullayev heads the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency, known as AZPROMO, under the Economy Ministry.
Azerbaijani direct investment in the Czech economy amounted to roughly $70 million over the same period, the figures showed.
The figures describe accumulated investment over more than three decades rather than a newly announced financing package. Forum participants did not announce new contracts, project launch dates or additional funding commitments.
Radek Špicar, vice president of the Czech Confederation of Industry and Transport, said Czech businesses view Azerbaijan both as a market and as a gateway to the wider region. Czech officials, in turn, presented their country as a possible entry point for Azerbaijani companies seeking access to the European Union market.
Participants identified heavy engineering, transportation, information technology, the automotive industry and chemicals as promising areas for cooperation.
The visiting Czech business delegation is the eighth mission to Azerbaijan since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1993, according to information presented at the forum.
The agenda also included talks on transit tariffs, multimodal transportation and possible participation by Czech rail freight operator ČD Cargo in joint logistics projects. Those discussions remained preliminary, and no final agreement was announced.
