Nakhchivan Trade Deficit Widens 47-Fold as Imports Surge

Must read

Nakhchivan’s foreign trade deficit reached $98.9 million in the first nine months of 2026, about 47 times the level recorded a year earlier, as imports surged and exports fell sharply.

The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic conducted $155.7 million in foreign trade from January through September, an increase of 67.3% from the same period in 2025, according to data from the region’s State Statistics Committee reported by Report.

Imports Rise as Exports Fall

Imports totaled $127.3 million, 2.8 times the year-earlier level. Exports fell 53.9% to $28.4 million.

That put imports at roughly 4.5 times exports. The increase in overall trade turnover therefore reflected a sharp expansion in purchases from abroad rather than an improvement in the trade balance.

Retail Turnover Tops 1.1 Billion Manats

Retail trade turnover in the autonomous republic rose 2.6% over the same nine-month period to 1.1367 billion manats.

Sales of food, beverages and tobacco products totaled 586.5 million manats, while sales of nonfood goods amounted to 550.2 million manats.
