A foreign hacker group targeted more than 100 domains belonging to Azerbaijan’s state information infrastructure, temporarily disrupting access to several government websites, authorities said.
The cyberattack began at about 10 p.m. on October 13, according to Azerbaijan’s State Service of Special Communication and Information Security. The incident was reported by APA and first published in Russian by Vesti Baku.
The service said technical countermeasures limited the attack’s impact and allowed the affected websites to continue operating. Work to protect the country’s state digital infrastructure was continuing.
Attackers and Methods Not Identified
Officials did not name the hacker group, identify a suspected country of origin or disclose the methods used in the attack.
The authorities also did not report that government systems had been compromised or that data had been stolen. The confirmed impact was limited to temporary interruptions affecting some online government resources.
The incident followed warnings from Azerbaijani cybersecurity specialists less than a week earlier about coordinated attacks against the country’s information systems.
