Two road projects involving new tunnels and a multilevel interchange are planned for Khirdalan to connect parts of the city divided by a railway and improve access to the M-1 and M-4 highways.
The projects are among 24 road initiatives included in Azerbaijan’s state program to improve transport infrastructure in Baku and surrounding areas in 2025-2030, Report said, citing the Azerbaijan State Agency of Automobile Roads.
The first project calls for a new tunnel, connecting roads and the reconfiguration of existing roads and interchanges. The work is intended to improve links between Khirdalan and both the M-1 and M-4 highways while creating additional routes between different parts of the city.
The second project would establish a direct road connection from the M-4 highway to central Khirdalan. Plans include another tunnel and a multilevel road interchange.
A railway line currently divides Khirdalan, while the limited number of crossings forces motorists to take lengthy detours. The road agency said the new connections should help distribute traffic between city streets and the major highways.
No construction cost, start date or completion timetable was provided. Authorities have not announced the opening of any new route.
