Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke by phone on March 30 with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi as the regional situation continued to worsen.

According to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, the two sides expressed deep concern over the growing escalation and stressed the need to intensify diplomatic efforts aimed at stopping the military clashes as soon as possible.

The ministers also exchanged views on bilateral issues of mutual interest, the ministry said.

Araghchi later confirmed the call in a post on his Telegram channel, saying the conversation focused on the latest regional developments as well as bilateral ties between Baku and Tehran.

At nearly the same time, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry issued a separate statement strongly condemning the launch of a ballistic missile from Iranian territory toward Turkey.

Azerbaijan expressed solidarity with “brotherly Turkey” and reaffirmed its unwavering support for Turkey’s security and territorial integrity, the statement said.

Taken together, the two moves showed Baku trying to balance continued diplomatic contact with Tehran during a dangerous regional escalation while also drawing a firm public line in support of Ankara’s security.
