Georgia’s relations with Azerbaijan have reached an unprecedented level in both political and economic terms, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.

Speaking during a debate on Rustavi 2 television, Kobakhidze said Tbilisi was taking every possible step to deepen and expand cooperation across the region.

“Today, we have truly unprecedentedly close relations with the countries of the region, both politically and economically,” he said.

Kobakhidze named Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey among Georgia’s key regional partners.

He added that Georgia was also strengthening ties with Central Asian countries.

Tbilisi’s strategic partnership with China is another important part of the country’s economic policy, the prime minister said.

Azerbaijan and Georgia maintain close cooperation in trade, energy and transportation. The two countries are central to major routes linking the Caspian region and Central Asia with Turkey and Europe.
