The rapid development of digital technologies is creating new opportunities for society, but it is also raising spiritual and ethical questions, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, has said to modern.az.

Pashazade said one of the key issues in the use of artificial intelligence and other digital innovations is the protection of moral and ethical values, timely prevention of possible risks and the priority of human judgment in religious matters.

“We, religious figures and believers, should also make use of the opportunities created by artificial intelligence.

Islam is a progressive religion that encourages science and enlightenment,” he said.

According to Pashazade, when artificial intelligence is assessed in the context of human rights, the protection of religious values and non-interference in the relationship of worship between God and the believer must remain core principles.

He said artificial intelligence has no soul and therefore cannot replace a human being in worship.

“Artificial intelligence offers broad opportunities in science, education, technology, medicine, services and production. Humanity should benefit from these opportunities.

However, in matters of worship and religious responsibility, no technology can take the place of a human being,” the sheikh-ul-Islam said.
