Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev warned that malicious actors are using artificial intelligence and other digital tools to spread radical ideas, finance terrorist networks and recruit new supporters.
Aliyev made the remarks in a message to participants in the Fourth Baku Security Forum published on Sept. 22, according to Vesti Baku.
The forum, held under the theme “New Challenges in the Global Security Architecture and the Formation of Effective Cooperation Mechanisms in the Fight Against Terrorism,” brings together leaders and representatives of intelligence and security agencies from several countries.
Threats Extend Beyond National Borders
Aliyev said intensifying geopolitical competition, conflicts and a crisis of trust have made strengthening national security and preserving international stability an urgent task.
A crisis in one region can quickly affect political and economic stability elsewhere, disrupt energy and food security, and damage transportation and communication links, he said.
The president listed terrorism and extremism, organized crime, illegal trafficking in weapons and drugs, and cybercrime among the increasingly complex threats that cross national borders.
Call for Better Information Sharing
Aliyev separately highlighted the risk of artificial intelligence being used for malicious purposes. He said counterterrorism efforts cannot be limited to the actions of individual states.
His message called for countries to identify risks early, build trust, expand professional contacts among security services and improve the exchange of information.
Azerbaijan will continue supporting international dialogue and cooperation on security issues, Aliyev said. The full text of his message was published by Report.
