Azerbaijani cybercrime police have detained 4 people as part of a new operation against illegal online casinos and gambling platforms, the Interior Ministry said.
The ministry identified the detainees as Safar Safarov, Fazil Mammadov, Riyad Heydarli and Nadir Soltanov.
According to the Interior Ministry, the men allegedly managed admin panels for online casino websites created outside Azerbaijan but aimed at users in the country. Police said the system allowed them to organize casino games online for the Azerbaijani segment.
During searches at the detainees’ homes, investigators seized electronic evidence, mobile phone numbers and more than 200 bank cards allegedly used in illegal casino operations, the ministry said.
The Interior Ministry said illegal online gambling platforms have increasingly used social media advertising to lure users with promises of “easy money,” bonuses and free balances. Officials warned that such schemes often lead to financial losses, addiction and legal consequences.
Safarov and Mammadov were remanded in custody by court order. Investigative actions are continuing in relation to the two other detainees, according to the ministry.
The Interior Ministry again urged citizens not to take part in illegal casino and gambling activity, stressing that legal responsibility applies not only to organizing such games, but also to participating in them.
