Azerbaijan repatriated 13 of its citizens from Syria on Oct. 6, including six women and seven children, the Foreign Ministry said.
The operation followed a phased effort by Azerbaijani state agencies to locate the citizens, confirm their identities and verify their citizenship, according to reports by Vesti Baku and Milli.az, which cited the ministry.
A working group representing the relevant government agencies traveled to Syria, where the returning citizens underwent initial medical and psychological examinations.
Azerbaijan’s embassies in Syria and Türkiye, along with the Consulate General in Istanbul, helped coordinate the repatriation. Authorities issued the citizens certificates permitting their return and provided airline tickets.
The government said the returnees will enter social rehabilitation and reintegration programs. The Foreign Ministry added that Azerbaijan would continue efforts to bring home citizens who have become victims of armed conflicts abroad.
