A 27-year-old Azerbaijani man wanted internationally in connection with a major fraud case has been detained in Cairo, Egypt.
According to Vesti Baku, Sanan Asadzade was detained in the Egyptian capital after being placed on an international wanted list.
A criminal case has been opened against Asadzade over 17 separate alleged fraud episodes. Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry said in November 2025 that he was suspected of defrauding citizens of a total of $412,000.
The case is linked to complaints from people who said they had given Asadzade money to import vehicles from abroad. According to the complaints, the cars were never delivered.
The case highlights a familiar risk in the market for imported cars, where buyers often hand over large sums in advance in the hope of getting a vehicle faster or at a better price. In this case, investigators say, several people were left without both their money and the promised cars.
Following his detention in Egypt, the next stage is expected to involve procedural steps related to the case and possible extradition to Azerbaijan.
