Polad Bulbuloglu, Azerbaijan’s former culture minister and former ambassador to Russia, has reportedly married for the third time at the age of 81.

According to Azerbaijani media reports, the current member of the Milli Majlis divorced Gulnara Shikhaliyeva, whom he married in 1997, and subsequently started a new family.

Bulbuloglu recently appeared with his new wife at a music festival held in Gabala. Following the festival, the couple reportedly traveled to Bodrum, Turkey, for a vacation.

Journalists attempting to obtain a comment from the lawmaker said he did not respond to telephone calls or messages. No official confirmation of the reported marriage has been issued.

Bulbuloglu’s first wife was Ukrainian-born Russian opera singer and People’s Artist of the USSR Bela Rudenko. Their son, Teymur Mammadov, was born during that marriage.

Bulbuloglu also has two children, Leyla and Murtuza, from his marriage to Shikhaliyeva.

A prominent singer, composer and diplomat, Bulbuloglu served as Azerbaijan’s culture minister from 1988 to 2006 and as the country’s ambassador to Russia from 2006 to 2024. He currently represents Azerbaijan’s parliament.
