BAKU, Azerbaijan - A renewed landslide on the Guba–Khinalig road has cut transport links to eight mountain villages in Azerbaijan’s Guba district, including Khinalig.
The landslide occurred on October 3 along a section that crews had previously cleared and reopened to traffic, according to Vesti Baku, citing APA’s northern bureau.
Prolonged rain and waterlogged soil reactivated the landslide in the mountainous area, sending earth onto the road and blocking vehicle passage, the report said.
Crews Return to Clear the Road
Heavy equipment and workers from the relevant services have been sent to the site. They are clearing the road again and trying to restore access to the villages.
No timetable for reopening the route has been announced. The APA report did not mention any injuries.
The Guba–Khinalig road links remote high-altitude settlements with the district center. Its closure affects residents’ travel and the delivery of essential goods to the isolated communities.
